Reinvention, Resilience, and Real Estate: Celebrating Pam Thomas this International Women’s Day

By Dan Sowden

At Ray White Maroochydore and Buderim, we believe that our greatest strength lies in the diverse stories of the people who make up our team. This International Women’s Day, we are incredibly proud to share the story of a woman who defines the word “extraordinary”: Pam Thomas.
If you met Pam today, you’d see a high-performing real estate agent at the top of her game. But her path to this point was anything but predictable.

A Life of Many Chapters

Before entering the property world, Pam had already lived multiple careers: business owner at 25, horticulturist, corporate sales leader, and national GM. In a recent interview with Britt, Pam shared that she has also been a foster mum to 22 children.
When asked what part of her story would surprise people most, Pam points to her deep roots in childcare and disability services. It’s this background of care and service that she believes gives women a unique edge in real estate.

“I think in general, women have a little less ego, they are good listeners, and they are very good at rapport building. Women have more empathy with people, and we can really spend the time with clients helping them overcome those obstacles.”

Taking the Leap (With Five Mortgages!)

Pam’s transition into real estate wasn’t just a career change; it was a bold act of faith. At the time she made the move, she was holding five mortgages. While many would have played it safe, Pam leaned into the drive she’s had since she was nine years old: a drive fueled by a desire for financial independence and the inspiration of her mother.
Her advice to any woman feeling nervous about a career change? “Have no fear.” Pam reminds us that mistakes are simply part of being human. Success comes to those who are brave enough to be bold in their decisions and in the belief in themselves.

The Power of Perspective

For Pam, success at 25 was about the “hustle” and the drive for financial security. Today, her definition of success has evolved; it’s about the freedom to enjoy her children and grandchildren, to travel, and to leave a legacy that inspires others.

“I want everyone to know that anyone can do it,” Pam says. “If you challenge yourself and you just work hard, success comes with that.”

The Heart of Our Culture

Pam’s story of balancing a high-pressure career with a rich family life is a narrative shared by many in our office. Our business wouldn’t be what it is today without the diverse perspectives and tireless work ethic of our female team members.

At Ray White Maroochydore and Buderim, our team is made up of over 70 staff members. Of those, 41 are female, and 18 of those women are mums. Additionally, our leadership team is 60% female.
These aren’t just statistics; they represent the heart of our culture. These women juggle the demands of high-pressure careers with the complexities of family life, all while providing world-class service to our clients.

To Pam, and to all the women who make our business great: thank you for the example you set every single day.

Happy International Women’s Day.
