Smoke Alarms are important in saving lives if there is a fire. Smoke Alarms detect smoke and sound an alarm to notify the occupants. It is a requirement that all properties are fitted with working smoke alarms, in particular, outside of sleeping areas and at least one on each level of a property.
It is a landlord’s responsibility to have the smoke alarms fitted and working. Smoke Alarms must also be tested and cleaned within 30 days of a new lease being signed or a lease being renewed.
Refer to the below information from the RTA and QFES regarding your Smoke Alarm responsibilities as a landlord.

QFES New Smoke Alarm Legislation
We recommend that you have a qualified electrician attend to all servicing requirements. Ray White Maroochydore will not test/service the smoke alarms for you and can accept no liability.
