Two luxury additions for your residential property

By Dan Sowden

Being the proud owner of a stately home means that you can do whatever you wish with it. If a wall in the kitchen is blocking your dreams of having an open plan interior layout, simply knock it down. Or if you’ve always wanted an extra ensuite, tack one on to one of the bigger bedrooms.

But when you own a home, chances are you’re dreaming of more luxury additions to either increase its value or just to turn it into your dream property.

If this sounds like you, here are two ideas for luxury home additions. Not only can these additions potentially provide a boost when you’re listing homes for sale, they can become a unique selling point for your property, too.

Home entertainment centre

Depending on how much space you have, you can turn an existing living room into a home entertainment centre.

If you’ve got a lot of space, consider installing a large, high quality projector screen onto one of the walls. Make sure this is located in a spot that doesn’t get any glare from natural or artificial light. However, you should also think about installing thick curtains to ensure optimal viewing at all times of the day.

You can’t forget about seating! If you have the room, think about buying two or three plush couches or sets of recliners that are placed in rows, like in a theatre. If you’re after a more informal choice of seating, there’s always the option of large bean bags and pillows, which can easily be stored when not in use.

Lady or man cave

You might’ve heard the term “man cave” from time to time, but this trend is also becoming dominated by women. Whether it’s used to shoot a couple games of pool or enjoy a drink at your own private bar, having a dedicated room for this is a great option.

It can give you a quiet area away from the kids where you can chill out and enjoy some private time. The key is determining what you actually want to use the room for, then centering your design around that.

Do you want to have a place for your friends to enjoy a drink and watch the footy? Perhaps you want a quiet space to sit down and sample local wines from your own cellar?

Pick a theme and run with it. Feel free to go overboard on this part of the home. After all, it’s going to be your own private piece of paradise!
