Even At Eight You Can Donate!

By Dan Sowden

Little Zoe Spicer is just eight years old and already is a talented artist in the making. She is the youngest of more than forty artists of all genres and styles from the Sunshine Coast who has taken the time to create and donate art to the Mix FM’s ‘Give Me 5 For Kids’ Art Auction, as part of their annual fundraising appeal.

When young Zoe heard about how all funds raised would go towards helping children in hospital, she decided she wanted to help in the best way she knew how. “I would just like to paint something that makes all of those sick kids feel really happy!”

Zoe is the daughter of Tara Spicer, an established and respected Coast artist whose artwork entitled ‘Flaming Elise’, an interpretation of an old classic called ‘Flaming June’, will be auctioned off this Thursday 21st June at the Solbar in Maroochydore.

Ms. Spicer said “I think that as a teacher and mentor to these growing individuals, it is important to not only teach art skills but to embrace the bigger picture of their lives and the world around them including the positive impact that they can have on local community, wellbeing, happiness and self-esteem”

Young Zoe’s artwork along with Mum Tara’s is available to view from 5.30pm at Solbar, Ocean Street, Maroochydore. The Live Auction starts at 7pm directly after the silent auction has been wrapped up.

Principal Dan Sowden of Ray White Maroochydore and Caroline Hutchinson from Mix FM will emcee and live auction art from artists such as Kendall Perkins, Anita Pettinato, Leigh Hutfield, Denise Daffara, Tara Spicer, Pauline Adair, Stephen Coffin-Grey, Bernhard Weisskamp, Evangeline Cachinero, Jill Gardner-Leonard and Rob Stanley most of whom will be there on the night.

Event organiser Louise Hickey said “There is such a kaleidoscope of colours and art genres to suit everyones taste and budget. This is such an exciting event, bringing together international and national talent both established and emerging, all helping to raise funds to help sick children”

Entry is via a $5 raffle ticket and finger food is provided. Blues and roots band ‘Sulco’ will play from 8pm onwards with all art auction attendees invited to stay on and enjoy the show, compliments of Solbar. Please note that minors are not permitted on Solbar premises after 5pm.
