How did you get into real estate/ What attracted you to a career in real estate?

Well… after 10 years in the building industry I was looking for a change into a lively and exciting career opportunity. A family member introduced me to our Principal Dan Sowden and the Property Management Team Leader Amanda Murphy and away I went into my new future.

What do you believe is the secret to success?

Patience, persistence and effort. You can’t succeed if you are not willing to put in the time it takes to know as much as you can. And remember that there is always more to learn.

What is your current real estate market like?

Busy busy busy. Even in this slower market coming into Winter, I am still having a lot of tenants move in and out of my portfolio due to a range of reasons. So making sure you reach every single person possible so that owners have the highest quality tenants we can put forward to them is paramount.

What does it mean to you to be a part of the Ray White brand? In short, why Ray White.

Ray White is Real Estate to me. No other company compares to what Ray White can offer. From opportunities in house to giving our owners and tenants the best experience. Staff here are so willing to go above and beyond, its inspiring. I wouldn’t give my job up for anything.

What are the challenges of working in this industry?

Long hours, demanding stressed out tenants as we are always dealing with people under pressure of looking for the right home, being accepted for it, moving into it, and settling back into their routine, tenants moving out of our homes and having smooth and easy vacate procedures in place to make sure that we can assist them and preempt anything that needs to be done before its required. Providing current and up to date information for our owners and ensuring that they get the responses required from us in a timely manner. Being available for both our tenants and our owners as much as possible.

What advice would you give to others starting in the industry?

Be ready!!! Its fast paced, challenging but fun. You need to be ready for constantly reevaluating your task list.

What is it like to work on the Sunshine Coast?

Why would you want to work anywhere else! We live in a holiday destination. Great beaches, wonderful scenery, close to so many amazing destinations in the hinterland.

What do you like to do outside of real estate/in your spare time?

Plenty. Living at the coast allows me to go bushwalking or climbing at any of the mountain ranges (Tibrogargen, Ngungun, Cooroora, Coolum, Kondalilla), taking the dogs to the beaches for some off lead fun and swimming (Mudjimba, Stumers Ck, Currimundi), we have so many markets and little cafes to explore, and come night time… We have so many incredible restaurants and little night spots to enjoy, with new ones opening all the time (go Spinners!).
