La Balsa Park Facelift Begins

LONG considered one of the most popular park locations on the Sunshine Coast, La Balsa Park at Point Cartwright will be receiving an upgrade come April 2016.

The La Balsa Park landscape is scheduled to begin first stages of construction in mid-April, taking in to consideration community consultation. This early stage of the development includes a minor upgrade of the most eastern car park, which will provide seven extra parking spaces and a general tidy up of the area.

The Council recognised the need to update this 1.5 hectare family friendly zone in late 2015, as this area of the Coast continues to swell in popularity, with neighbouring master planned communities steam rolling ahead and an ever growing Sunshine Coast population. This update will ensure the parks facilities are suitable to cater for locals and visitors alike, with the increase in car parks a welcome addition.

The following stages of the landscape plan are tipped to include upgrades to the the western car park near the boat ramp, however there is currently no funding allocated to this area in the Council’s current ten year capital works program. Further community consultations and the outcome of local divisional council elections are sure to impact these plans.

Other areas of improvement identified for future upgrades to the area include playgrounds, updated toilet blocks with further accessibility, wider pathways, larger barbecue areas,  and improved access for the public to the river for both swimming and non-motorised water craft.

These modern updates are a welcome addition to this coastal fringe community, if you are a local and want to discuss the changes happening in your area contact us today.
